Graffiti project 13^th August 2007 - 24^th August 2007.  ‘Ark’ in conjunction with ‘Art Under the Sun.’

“WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER

&

HUMAN NATURE”

This project aims to create a type of Graffiti art, where a mix of Fine art, Digital art and craft are added, dispelling the myth that Graffiti cannot evolve.

5 young people with an art interest have come together to produce a large-scale Artwork, which can be dismantled and resurrected for various events.

The topics ‘War’ and ‘Nature’ were chosen and resulted in the titles of the work being-  ‘ War Is Not The Answer & Human Nature’   

Which can be alternated, as the work is divided into two parts, which is purposely contrasting and surreal images are used.

We hope that the Artwork captured the topics and reflected young peoples views on these topics.

Drawings and pictures of the artwork were documented throughout the project.

Discussions for the making of this artwork

Discussions and thought provoking questions arose during the production/ design stage of this Artwork, namely; -

On Nature –

Is the world a living organism like us? Are we treating animals worse now than we’ve ever treated them? Is deforestation the fundamental problem relating to climate change?

On War –

Are we obsessed with ‘Defence’ when defence is pretence for attack?

Are money, minerals, oil, population growth, power and greed, economics and the testing of weapons the essence of war?

Conclusion to discussion.

The two pieces reflect conflict and harmony in the world even though there is conflict harmony does exist. The background colours represent the changing seasons within the year.
